Wines made from grapes from abandoned vineyards

UOU natural orange and red wines are made from the grapes from abandoned vineyards. The consortium of abandoned vineyards cleaned them up, renewed and strengthened them so that they may enjoy a new youth in their late years.

our story

the Consortium of abandoned vineyards

Friends from different places and of different ages have been gathering for years among the vineyard terraces, olive trees and with a glass of good wine, each with their own role within the consortium. They were brought together by the wish to preserve older wine sorts, natural wine production and pleasant company of course. They are also bound by the unique and almost unparalleled life energy of landowner Marinko Pintar.

'UOU' natural wines

The name of this wine honours the memory of the ox, a beast of burden which in the past was essential for the survival of the people in the Primorska region, who were just as strong, persistent and stubborn. 'UOU' natural wines require complete attention. Old vines and natural agriculture in connection with maturation in wooden barrels are a piece of the recipe which gives the wine its unique aroma with a distinctive body.

Five vineyards (the Ivanka, Marijo Kurinc, Silva Kurinc, Gospodovo and Bišč vineyards) are located under the St. Catherine (Kekec) hill at the altitude of 110 and 180 metres above sea level.

It is the only vineyard owned by the consortium and is a part of the Goriška Brda region. At approximately 5000 square metres of steep terraces, 1500 vines are planted.  600 vines are Rebula, the other 900 are of various sorts, merlot, barbera, refošk, cabernet sauvignon, franc, maločrn, cipra, chirac, gamay and vranac.

In Potoče the consortium has 1500 vines, the wine region is the Vipavska dolina valley, half of the vineyard is Rebula, the other half Malvazija.

Members of the consortium are brought together by the unique and almost unparalleled life energy of landowner Marinko Pintar.
